Knoxville Technology Council Releases Strategy Report on Regional AI and Tech Preparedness
The Knoxville Technology Council (KTech) published its “Technology State of the Union” report, providing regional policymakers, employers, and educators with updated data on the Greater Knoxville innovation economy. The strategy-focused study assesses Knoxville’s readiness to compete as a regional technology center at the intersection of artificial intelligence, clean energy, and technical talent.
The report notes that STEM and innovation roles in the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area offer average wages roughly double the overall regional baseline. However, local employer surveys highlighted a split in job market demands: high growth for cloud architects and AI-enabled infrastructure roles, alongside contractions in routine tech functions like entry-level IT support and traditional documentation that are increasingly augmented by AI tools.
KTech emphasized that regional competitiveness will require targeted investments in continuous upskilling, practical AI enablement for local businesses, and modern computer science programs in local schools.
